Thank you for being part of the b.ASIC a.CTIVIST k.ITCHEN, the community kitchen project that supports the cause of Sea Shepherd Italy.
With your donation you will be supporting Operazione Siracusa, a campaign born in 2014 to defend the Plemmirio Marine Protected Area, in Sicily (MPA): The protection of this area is considered a priority because poaching and other illegal fishing activities have brought dusky groupers, sea urchins and countless other species to the brink of extinction.
With the participation of activists from all over Europe, Sea Shepherd patrols day and night the coasts of the MPA, to identify, document and promptly notify law enforcement to fight illegal fishermen.

These are some of the data collected in 2024:
– 65 volunteers involved
– 1.516 hours of patrolling
– 57 Poachers/illegal activities reported
– 69 interventions by the authorities of which 52 from the Coast Guard, 1 from the State Police, 1 from the Financial Police, 16 from the Environmental Police, 3 from Consorzio del Plemmirio
– 12 illegal activities interrupted and sanctioned
MPAs are natural sea reserves, a safe haven for marine flora and fauna, restoring important ecological functions essential for the health of our seas. Sea Shepherd’s direct action in these years of activity has preserved the marine life of this area, also through the use of cutting-edge technologies.
